...the O-iO Volksfest will take place this year in Sarnen / Engelberg on May 18th and 19th, 2024!
In 2020 and 2021, although officially cancelled due to COVID, hundreds of vintage cars still travelled to Sarnen; that was not prohibited.
More than 270 classic beauties have already been registered for this year's event, ranging from lovingly maintained everyday classics to exclusive pre-war and more recent classic cars. This diversity promises once again a unique showcase for all vintage car enthusiasts.
O-iO is a free Pentecostal pleasure for spectators, especially for families with kids. The aim is to bring our scene closer to the population. Kids and young vintage car fans up to 15 years old can demonstrate their photographic talent in the photo competition. There are attractive prizes to be won, including 3 grams of gold for the first place. Meanwhile, younger children can enjoy themselves on the Bobby Car track. The 'Belle Époque' special program is another highlight, showcasing the fascinating depiction of this golden era with authentic groups and vehicles from the time. Three bands will ensure a lively atmosphere in Sarnen on Saturday from 4 pm onwards. O-iO is more than just a vintage car meeting; it's a real folk festival. The popular passenger rides on Saturday afternoon after lunch are considered a highlight for the thousands of spectators.
Those participating in O-iO with classic cars can also expect a unique and colourful program. In addition to exhibitions in Sarnen and Engelberg, an idyllic tour on side roads of Obwalden is scheduled for Saturday afternoon. The route passes through the track of the Sarner Soapbox Race, a project of the local school, the municipalities of Sarnen, and the companies where the students build their own soapboxes. It's a huge fun event for everyone. On Pentecost Sunday, the massive O-iO convoy heads to Engelberg, partly on otherwise closed private roads. One of the two routes goes over the Ächerlipass."
